Crunch Roll Sushi Bowl
I’m going to get started with one of our favorites, this delicious crunch roll sushi bowl.
🍚 Cook the Rice
We’re going to break this down into three different sections.
- First we’re going to cook our rice.
- Second we’re going to make the sauces, both the eel sauce and the spicy mayo.
- Third we’re going to toast our panko breadcrumbs.
Start off with making your rice. I actually like to cook mine in chicken broth because it gives it a lot more flavor.
Add 1 and 1/2 cups of the rice to make 3 cups cooked.
While we let this cook we are going to go ahead and work on prepping the rest of the ingredients.
🍶 Make the Eel Sauce
The eel sauce is only three ingredients:
- Regular soy sauce
- Mirin
- Regular sugar
Mirin is a Japanese rice wine commonly used in a lot of Japanese cooking.
Add all three ingredients into a small saucepan.
Turn the heat over medium, stir and mix everything together. Keep stirring occasionally until this starts to boil.
Once it starts boiling, turn the heat down to low. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes until it starts getting slightly thicker and stickier.
Remove it from the heat and let it sit in the pan.
🥢 Toast the Panko Breadcrumbs
1. Pour a cup of panko breadcrumbs into a small saucepan.
2. Add about 1/4 cup of olive oil on top of the breadcrumbs.
3. Turn the heat to medium and stir really well so that all of the crumbs are coated with olive oil.
4. Let them toast for a few minutes until they start changing color.
Once everything turns more of a golden brown, turn the heat off and transfer it to a plate because the oil continues to cook on the breadcrumbs.
🌶️ Make the Spicy Mayo
The spicy mayo takes 2 seconds.
All you need is:
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- Sriracha
Personally I add about 2 tablespoons of sriracha to my spicy mayo, but 1 tablespoon is a safe place to start.
Mix the two together and you have your spicy mayo. Cover it and put it in the fridge until ready to use.
🥑 Prep the Ingredients
Here is the crab that I get. It can be either kind leg or flake.
Start by peeling the crab apart lengthwise almost like string cheese. Then chop it into really small pieces.
Next prep:
- Cilantro
- Cucumber
- Avocado
Save the avocado till right before the bowls are ready to be made because we don’t want it to turn brown.
🍱 Put the Crunch Roll Sushi Bowl Together
Now we have everything ready to go.
Start with some rice in a bowl.
Then add:
- Crab
- Cucumber
- Cilantro
- Avocado
Next sprinkle some breadcrumbs. Use a spoon to drizzle on the spicy mayo and eel sauce.
And you have this delicious crunch roll sushi bowl.
